A modern-day ‘Tower of Babel’
In the wake of God’s judgment by the great flood of Noah’s day, the Lord
said in Genesis 9:1 to those whom He had preserved “Be fruitful, and
multiply and fill the earth”. Just two chapters later we find men
disobeying God and pursuing their own ‘wisdom’ and agenda for we read in Genesis
11:4 how they said “Come let us build us a city and a tower whose top
may reach unto heaven and let us make us a name”.
The tower constructed at Babel was a monument to man’s rebellious pride
and once more invoked God’s wrath and judgment for we read in Genesis 11:8
“So the Lord scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth” –
God saw to it that His desire for there to be “separation” [see Genesis
10:6] and “division” [see Genesis 10:32] was not thwarted by human
‘wisdom’.
Following God’s judgment upon sin on the Cross of Calvary when He made
His beloved Son “to be sin for us” [2nd Corinthians 5:21] the
risen Christ then gave commands to His followers to “Go ye into all the
world and preach the gospel to every creature” [Mark 16:15] and to “teach
all nations… teaching them to observe whatsoever I have commanded you” [Matthew
28:19-20].
The focus of the mission of faithful followers of Christ is, through
preaching and teaching, to be used in the rescue of a people for whom Christ
died, a people whose future eternal destiny will be in “a city which hath
foundations, whose builder and maker is God” [Hebrews 11:10]. This speaks
of the glorious ‘Promised Land’ [the eternal
‘glory’ itself with Christ] for Christians
and this is what we, like Abraham should be “looking for”.
The Christian mission is not to seek to patch up this fallen world that
is destined for God’s fiery judgment – our focus and calling should not be on
things that are seen for they are “temporal” but rather they are to be
on the unseen things which are “eternal” [see 2nd Corinthians
4:18]. Fallen humanity of course seeks to follow its own ‘wisdom’ and
agenda just as it did back in Genesis 11:4. In the name of ‘religion’ it
has its own ‘great commission’ and rescue plan and it has nothing to do with
the Cross of Calvary or “a city which hath foundations, whose builder and
maker is God”.
The ‘great commission’ of the Lord Jesus Christ will result in ‘separation’
and ‘division’ as the Lord Himself explained in Luke 12:51-53 when
He said “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, nay,
but rather division. For from henceforth there shall be five in one house,
divided three against two and two against three. The father shall be divided
against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the
daughter and the daughter against the mother; the mother-in-law against her
daughter-in-law and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law”. What
are these people going to be ‘divided’ over – the unique gospel, claims
and mission of the Lord Jesus Christ?
Christians know that what politically has been termed ‘social
cohesion’ through smorgasbord religion is a sinful pipe dream that they
must distance themselves from and yet this is precisely what the ‘wisdom’ of
the world is seeking to achieve and sadly they are being aided and abetted by
the likes of so-called ‘evangelical’ Rick Warren with his unscriptural PEACE
plan involving a co-operating ‘partnership’ of all faiths, governments and
business consortiums.
However there is another upcoming major expression of this worldly
‘wisdom’ with supposed ‘Christian’ input planned for Melbourne, Australia
from 3rd – 9th December 2009 when the latest
gathering of the ‘Parliament of the World’s Religions’ is scheduled to
take place.

God’s revealed plan is to “purify unto himself a people of his own”
[Titus 2:14] and, despite this latest expression of human religious
pride and rebellion, He will, as in Genesis 11, proceed with His plans and will
not be thwarted. His sovereign will shall be accomplished and will climax in
that greatest of all ‘separation’ and ‘division’ that we read of
in Matthew 25:34 “Then shall the king say unto them on his right hand, Come
ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world” and Matthew 25:41 “Then shall he say also unto
them on the left hand, Depart from me ye cursed into everlasting fire, prepared
for the devil and his angels”.
On that great and solemn day the deliberations and decisions of the
so-called ‘Parliament of the World’s Religions’ will be shown to have
been foolish and soul-damning as God shall surely “destroy the wisdom of the
wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent” [1st
Corinthians 1:19]. The folly of human ‘understanding’ will be exposed for
the foolishness that it is and will be painfully plain for all to see when God
separates His ‘sheep’ from Satan’s ‘goats’ [see Matthew 25:32].
As this world spirals even further down into the pit of ‘damnable
heresies’ [2nd Peter
2:1] surely the heartfelt cry and prayer of God’s people should
increasingly rise to heaven in the words of John “Even so, come, Lord Jesus”
[Revelation 22:20].
